Dear Friends in Scouting and Guiding
Our very name, National Scout and Guide Fellowship, implies some sort of friendship especially with people who share a common interest. February 22nd, as well as being the joint birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, is a time for us to reflect on a part of the heritage they left us – the Promise.
By making and renewing our Promise we share the commitment to a way of life that brings love and understanding of others. Baden Powell left us this legacy to enjoy, share and pass on to others. Throughout the last months we have had time to reflect on what our Promise means to us personally. Many of us have played a big part in helping within our communities, caring for others and keeping in touch with those who are on their own. This is the Promise in action.
The Promise is something vibrant and living- not just something we say- but something that grows with us as we travel through life.
So whatever happens this year, whatever restrictions are put upon us, let us use Founder’s/Thinking Day to reflect on our Promise and make a conscious effort to keep the Guiding/Scouting light shining.
